Welcome

Rotary was founded in Chicago, Illinois, on February 23, 1905.  One of the four founding members of Rotary was a young attorney named Paul Harris.  His initial idea was for fellowship, as well as to form business relationships.  Rotary International is now known and respected as a global service organization, performing projects around the world. Our current membership includes more than 1.2 million women and men. 

 

Rotary is made up of three parts:

 

One of our most important projects has been End Polio Now, started more than 30 years ago. As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. We've helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries. So far, Rotary has contributed more than $1.8 billion toward eradicating the disease worldwide.

 

Our club members are strong supporters of the Rotary Foundation, and we are very proud that all of our members are Paul Harris Sustaining Members.  Many of our members are also Paul Harris Fellows. 

 

Our Fort Worth Southwest Club is part of Rotary District 5790, which includes 72 clubs across North Texas. Our club was chartered on September 20, 1980, as the Wedgewood Rotary Club.  Our sponsoring Rotary club was Fort Worth South.  The Wedgewood Rotary Club was a breakfast club meeting on Tuesday.  In 1983, our club was re-chartered as Fort Worth Southwest Rotary.  The meeting day and time were changed to noon on Thursday.

 

The Rotary Emblem is the gearwheel.  This gearwheel has 6 spokes, 24 cogs, and a "Keyway" in the center.  This keyway makes this wheel a working wheel, and not an idler wheel.  The Rotary colors are blue and gold.
